This blog is a collaboration between My Dad, David Cartledge and myself. One from the archives with a few extra thoughts. I pray that you find this helpful.
In leadership and life, there are always contributing factors that help us and hinder us. What is going to make the DIFFERENCE in our leadership as we walk out the journey. What will keep us on the path, what will ground us and what will challenge us to go further than we could have imagined. The points that follow are what I would say are the DIFFERENCE MAKERS in Leadership.
To desire leadership is a healthy thing. It is not something to be just accepted lightly, but should burn in your heart.
“Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer DESIRES a noble task.” – 1 Timothy 3:1 NIV
To God, come what may. Whatever season of life.
“But the slave may declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I don’t want to go free.’ If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door or doorpost and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will serve his master for life.” – Exodus 21:5-6 NLT
To God. Relationship not just service.
“Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’” – Matthew 22:37 NLT
we need to take decisive actions. Indecision leads to doubt.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”” – Isaiah 6:8 NIV
Put your hand to the plow. Stubbornly stick to your convictions.
“Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.” – 2 Kings 2:2 NIV
Committed to becoming better in every area.
“Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.”- 2 Timothy 2:15 NLT
Live in the realm of dreams and revelation.
““Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.” – Joel 2:28 NLT
Work hard to maintain a steadfast spirit.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
DEALING with DISCOURAGEMENT
Continual discouragement leads to despair, depression and distress.
“But David found strength in the Lord his God.” – 1 Samuel 30:6 NLT
Having runs on the board is the reason people will follow.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” – Galatians 6:9 NLT
Do every activity with energy.
“It has become my inspiration and passion in ministry to labor with a tireless intensity, with his power flowing through me, to present to every believer the revelation of being his perfect one in Jesus Christ.” – Colossians 1:28-29 TPT
Using Wisdom to be able to make the right decision quickly.
““Here’s what I want: Give me a God-listening heart so I can lead your people well, discerning the difference between good and evil. For who on their own is capable of leading your glorious people?”” – 1 Kings 3:9 MSG
Spiritual and natural authority. Victory over inferiority and weakness.
“Look, I have given YOU authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.” – Luke 10:19 NLT
DEALING with DISTRACTION
Strive to retain focus and improve concentration in a low attention world.
“I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.” – 1 Corinthians 7:35 NLT
There is a great reward in the mobilisation of others.
D.L. Moody – I would rather put ten men to work than do the work of ten men.
Don’t just run to finish, run to win. Hard work, Hard work, Hard work.
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” – Ecclesiastes 9:10 NIV
Be an example of what you want others to be.
“I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.” – John 13:15 NLT
Be passionate and have fervency in life, worship and prayer.
He answered, “What’s written in God’s Law? How do you interpret it?” He said, “That you love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and muscle and intelligence—and that you love your neighbour as well as you do yourself.” “Good answer!” said Jesus. “Do it and you’ll live.” – Luke 10:26-28 MSG
DEALING with DEFILEMENT
Set yourself apart from the crowd and be holy. Don’t just go with the flow.
“For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”” – 1 Peter 1:16 NIV
Rely on the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” – Acts 1:8 NLT
